Every school should have an embedded programme of career education and guidance that is known and understood by pupils, parents, teachers, governors and employers.

Every pupil, and their parents/carers, should have access to good quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities. They will need the support of an informed adviser to make best use of available information.
~ Information on a wide variety of careers is available in the school library, on the school website, and by request
~ Information on relevant careers is communicated in each subject
~ Students learn directly from people in the world of work through meeting one or several employers or career role models each year
Pupils have different career guidance needs at different stages. Opportunities for advice and support need to be tailored to the needs of each pupil. A school’s career programme should embed equality and diversity considerations throughout.
~ We raise aspiration through providing positive female role models in a variety of roles
~ Students and their parents can request a record of careers activities they have had the opportunity to be part of
~ We offer one-to-one careers guidance at critical junctures, and by request
~ We use data on previous student destinations to inform the programme
~ We use student feedback and interest to plan activities
~ The SEND department provides additional support to ensure that SEND students are able to access careers activities when relevant, and to ensure that they are working towards suitable progression routes. Please see SEND in the Careers Year Overview for more information.
All teachers should link curriculum learning with careers, STEM subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths.

Every pupil should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes.
~ Each class meets at least one employer or career role model per year
~ Visitors from other departments are asked to speak about their job role or career path
Pupils should have first-hand experiences of workplace through work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience of career opportunities, and expand their networks if relevant to the courses they are taking.
~ Year 9 / 10 have an opportunity to experience a workplace through a project which involves visiting a local workplace.
~ Students in some subjects have additional work placement opportunities within the chosen subject
All pupils should understand the full range of learning opportunities that are available to them.
~ Students learn about the full range of pathways and progression routes, and have encounters with providers of each of these
~ We offer application support
Every pupil should have opportunities for guidance interviews with a career adviser, who could be internal (a member of school staff) or external, provided they are trained to an appropriate level. These should be available whenever significant study or career choices are being made. They should be expected for all pupils but should be timed to meet their individual needs.
~ We offer personal careers guidance on request, and at key junctures
~ We arrange for every student in Year 11 to have a confidential careers guidance session with a careers adviser
~ Current information on common destinations is sought and conveyed to students by the Head of Year
